Responding to market demand,
Agusta formed its North American subsidiary, then called Agusta Aviation,
in 1981, with headquarters in Houston, TX. Now renamed Agusta Aerospace
Corporation (AAC), to reflect its broader role and mission, the company
operates out of a multi-million dollar, 75,000 square foot headquarters
facility in Philadelphia, PA.
United
States, Canadian, South American, and Central American sales, along with
service support, are conducted from AAC. Complete support capabilities
include: airframe/sheet metal fabrication, components overhaul, parts
inventory, routine inspections, pilot and mechanic training, and A109/A119
completions, all provided from the fly-in service hangar located within
the headquarters complex.
On October 29, 2004, AgustaWestland opened the expansion to the manufacturing
facility of Agusta Aerospace Corporation, to build the A119 Koala
helicopter used by civilian and law enforcement customers. This new
facility adds a state-of-the-art, 40,000 square foot workspace with
assembly, completion and flight-line hangar areas.
About one year later the company has opened another expansion to its
facility, which in addition to the AW139 assembly is also responsible
for AW119 Ke production and supporting the expanding fleet of
AgustaWestland helicopters in North and South America. The company
broke ground on this new 110,000 square foot facility in November 2005
and already in December 2006 the first AW139 assembled in Philadelphia
was delivered to its customer.
On February 20, 2008, AgustaWestland was pleased to announce the Grand
Opening of the new AW139 assembly line in Philadelphia (PA). This second
AW139 assembly line in Philadelphia enables AgustaWestland to meet the
growing demand for the AW139 medium twin turbine helicopter around the
world but with particular focus on the expanding Americas' markets.
Just over one year since production started this AW139 assembly line
is about to reach full scale production and will be able to produce 30
helicopters per year. By early 2008 employment at the Philadelphia
facility had grown to approximately 500 people.
The Philadelphia facility has steadily expanded to become AgustaWestland's
third main helicopter final assembly location and continues to be the
main product support centre for customers throughout the Americas.
Customer support is provided 24 hours per day 7 days per week for a fleet
of more than 360 helicopters in the Americas. Moreover, the Philadelphia
plant is also devoted to both flight and maintenance training activities.

A large, professional staff is dedicated to the procurement of parts,
components, and systems from U.S. and Canadian suppliers. Sources selection,
contract administration, in-transit warehousing, and import/export management
are all handled under one roof at the Philadelphia facility. A 15,000
square foot warehouse serves as the consolidation point for over $100
million worth of goods annually exported to Italy in support of Agusta
production lines.
